Ms. Icecovy the female Muscovy duck is really starting to show signs of serious improvement from her frostbite infection or botulism not to sure, but the bottom line is she is doing great. This time she is not going to get any added stress to her life I'm going to keep her in the hospital so she can get some serious Rest & Recovery. No breeding or exposure to outside until she is 100% and the warmer weather gets here.
Today is much warmer -6°C but there is a nasty wind of course and weather warnings on the internet that a serious winter storm is coming, late winter early spring storms can end up being really big hopefully this one isn't too big.
When I went outside today, I stayed quite to show exactly how the ducks respond to me when I call to them and of coarse today they gave me a below normal response on the quacking.
The last 5 or 6 days I've noticed a lot more feathers appearing in the barn and the pen, plus the Rouen and Muscovy ducks are starting to look a bit rough, I think we're in store for a major moult soon. The last moult wasn't really that big considering the amount of ducks I've got here so this one I think is the big moult, before the big egg rush beings.
Today egg recon was a shocker, huge freaking duck eggs.
We've got a huge nasty late winter storm coming, never fails the end of winter seems to always bring some of the biggest winter storms.
Today with the partial melt the ducks are playing in the mud and its freezing on their feathers so the ducks are walking around with mud frozen to them, they look really bad. I gave some of the really muddy ducks a shower, of course the ducks loved it when do they don't like being sprayed with the garden hose, never!
Got screwed around with the guy with the incubator for sale that imported it from China, now I find out it isn't in Canada yet and he doesn't have a clue what he is talking about, trying to tell me a incubator set up for chicken eggs will work for duck and geese eggs, he has no idea what he is talking about. Also he never ordered them with 110v controllers for the North American market; he ordered them with 220v controllers.
So to night I'm talking directly with the factory via Skype and ordering exactly what I need configured exactly how it should be, so we're going to be a touch behind but not the end of the world.
