The cross breed ducklings are really starting to look awesome, they are so beautiful their colouring is so unique and sharp, plus I can't believe how big they are considering they are crosses between the Rouen & Pekin and Rouens being much smaller ducks.
Last night sighted in the 22 rifle with the new scope and took the opportunity to condition Dug and he did fantastic, by the time I was finished sighting in the rifle Dug was calm and laying down beside me shooting without being tied up. I was so proud of him last night.
It was so cute this morning in the barn a little duckling was practicing his jumping skills trying to get out of the kiddie pool.
While I was in the barn this morning taking care of the ducklings, Dug was running around the yard sniffing the lawn like crazy I guess we had a predator in the yard last night. Then all of sudden Dug let out a big howl of pain and went running in to the swamp, he got seriously wacked by the electric fence I hadn't turned it off yet because I went straight in to the barn this morning. Poor Dug is having a brutal week here, last time he got shocked he went down into the swamp for about 20 minutes and then came back home, so I wasn't worried he disappeared.
Checked the trap and nothing in it again, it's been 3 days and nothing is even trying to get the duck leg hanging in the trap.
While I was in the middle of my duck chores in the duckling's pen, my neighbour showed up in the my driveway to tell me he just saw Dug jump the fence by the highway and run towards town on the highway like a bat out of hell.
Another curve ball to deal with now, got into the truck and headed towards town to see if I can find my freaked out dog, I guess the shock of the electric fence caused his brain to completely turn off and go into complete Fight or Flight mode being mostly the "Flight" part.
Turned out he ran into town and I found him 10 kms away or about 6 ½ miles from our house, he covered this much territory in less than 15 minutes. Everybody that saw him in town said they'd never seen a dog run so fast and that was over 8 km into his freaked out run, it was easy to find him it was liking finding a run away horse running the streets everyone saw him.
Maybe Dug's got a future in track racing
The ducklings in the barn are so cute the way they pile on top of Midget duck, it's like they've all made him their mother.
Built some more water stations for the ducks today, made another one with the small 3 foot kiddie pools, they work great so now the ducklings have double the amount of clean fresh water they can last a full 24 hours now without me worrying if they have enough water or not.
Dug basically spent the rest of the day in the house I was on my own today outside.
Spent the afternoon cutting tall grass around the yard to get rid of the hiding spots for the fox to hide during his hunting of my ducks, tomorrow I've got a lot more cutting to do to make it impossible for the fox to hide and kill my ducks.
The ducklings went to bed early tonight I can't believe how they go into the barn and sleep so early sometimes.
I picked up my gosling today like I try to do everyday, and I can't believe how soft their fluff is, I've never had anything so soft touch my skin before.
