The Drakes are getting out of the enclosure today and are going to be with the female ducks, it's been since January 2014 that they were separated from the females now it's time to be free from the drake enclosure.
Got a minor Duck Morning Rush from the females today when I opened the pen so I could start taking the drake enclosure apart, the female ducks are really enjoying the mud and water around the yard now it's officially spring meltdown under way.
The noise they are making drilling around the yard is crazy, I can't believe the amount of noise water & mud makes going through their bills sort of sounds like locusts hitting the property.
Started taking the grid down so the drakes could be free and I got a lesson today on just how stupid ducks are, where the grid wall use to be the drakes actually stopped like it was some kind of invisible wall and they couldn't go through it.
Even with over 50% of the grid wall removed the drakes couldn't get it through their heads they had freedom back and could leave the pen, and even with 75% of it removed they had a serious problem with freedom and the invisible walls.
Fear of FREEDOM!
The Rouen drakes were the first to start having sex with the female ducks; they are actually the most active today.
It was funny once the female ducks realized the drakes were out of their enclosure and had freedom the female ducks came back from the swamp to have a reunion with the drakes up in the yard.
Sort of strange this spring the ducks aren't hanging around in a big flock, they are more scattered around the yard now it must be that they are more mature now they don't hang around with each other as much.
A lot of female ducks beating the crap out of the drakes, it's really strange the female ducks are really aggressive and kicking the crap out of the drakes. But then you look around the yard and you see groups of females following drakes around like little kids following an ice cream truck.
The white chicken hen truly thinks she's a duck, the other 4 brown hens are in the barn out of the rain but no the white one is out with the duck playing in the mud and running around in the rain and it's raining really hard out today. We are supposed to get over 75 mm of rain over the next 24 hours.
Egg recon today 34 duck eggs, it sure looks like duck egg production is going through the roof now the days are longer, the last 4 or 5 days I've had over 30 eggs min per day soon I'm going to need a new larger bucket.
Lots of courting action going on with the ducks, but not a lot of actual breeding on the first day of freedom for the drakes.
