male Canvasback Duck Apt 18, 2015 near Zehner, Sask, Canada

Male Canvasback Duck in breeding season - the female was close by. I'm not sure if this open-bill thing is a display for the female, or a warning with me sitting at the roadside, but I was a fair distance away. Usually slowing down or stopping to take a photo results in the more skittish ducks (e.g. Northern Pintails) flying farther back in a slough. This pair stayed put, with the male doing this open-bill behavior. (perhaps he didn't like the look of the female and was about to hork?!!) Taken just W of Zehner, SK Canada, 8:05 a.m. Apr 18, 2015
