Ms. Icecovy wants to be mounted really badly, she's back in the breeding mode again and she's giving me huge eggs. Her feet are healing but it's a long slow road to recovery for the female Muscovy duck.
Serious spring melt down happening now that the warmer weather is getting here, and of coarse lots of duck poop for me to deal with.
The ducks are going crazy in all the mud puddles around the yard; they are having so much fun now the ice is finally leaving the property after a long and brutal winter.
Today is barn clean out day; the next time I clean out the barn will be when I re-arrange the layout so the ducks have separate areas for themselves by breed so I can get pure breed eggs for ducklings.
The ducks want out to the pen seriously bad today; they are all over the pen now instead of hanging around in the same spot all the time which is really nice seeing them use the rest of the pen now.
Got some planning to do in laying out the pen and a lot of clean up to do also, it's going to be a brutal couple of weeks for me.
Egg recon is becoming a bigger deal everyday; now that the days are really getting longer the ducks are seriously starting to lay more eggs. The ducks are dropping eggs all over the pen, they don't just lay eggs in the nesting boxes, I've got a hunch it's the Pekin ducks dropping eggs all over the place.
The ducks are really interested in me cleaning out the barn today, they are watching me work. Plus new straw is like Christmas for them so they are waiting for Santa to come with a new bail of straw.
Now that it's warmer out at night I'm leaving the pen 150watt metal halide yard light on for them, if I don't they panic with the noises on the property. With the warmer weather they don't spend much time inside now, they want to be outside now 24/7.
