Ducks are released from their pen on a tea estate pond (pukur) in Pasighat area of Arunachal Pradesh. The ducks take off across their pond while Babul - the man in charge of the wetland collects eggs to take home. He will consume some in his family and sell the rest...
He points out that the larger eggs are from the Raj Hans while the smaller ones are from the local hans or goose. He tells us that the larger geese give one egg her week while the smaller ducks give 9 or 10 at a time. The smaller duck eggs fetch Rs. 20 and a goose egg fetches Rs. 50 each, in the local market - much more than poultry or chicken eggs.
