Duck It !!!

Dislike 0 Published on 30 Jul 2016

Duck keeping on the homestead is becoming very popular. We prefer the Rouen to the Muscovy or Mallard types / breeds, though their coloration is similar to the mallard. Rouen ducks do not require water such as a pool or pond for breeding. And being basically flightless, they can be kept in fencing or a pen rather than a cage for protection. We have been raising and breeding our ducks for several years, hatching their eggs ourselves and tending to the hatchlings. Rouens are a large captive / domesticated breed VS the smaller wild mallards.

Our ducks prefer to nest in straw, and a broody female will usually gather the eggs to one nesting area. We gather the eggs daily for hatching, and enjoy having cute ducklings that are happy and silly running around the farm quacking VS buying from hatcheries.
