Dogs go barking mad over grooming craze

There are some 8.5 million dogs living in the UK, and their owners spend around £10 billion on them every year. This tremendous expenditure is helping to drive a boom in the dog grooming business.
I decided to see what all the fuss was about, so I contacted Fran Gray at Dialadogwash Manchester. Fran is the licensee holder for the Dailadogwash franchise in Manchester. In a former life she was a special needs teacher and before that she worked as a journalist at the BBC. Her claim to fame is that she used to be the angry voice from Manchester on "Points of View".
Fran teamed me up with her senior dog groomer, Jess, to put my dog grooming skills to the test. To the obvious relief of the dogs, I was not entrusted with the scissors or clippers, but was allowed to wash and dry the lucky trio of Toby, Jerry and Baldrick. I am pleased to report that there were no complaints. Baldrick, a cocker spaniel lapped up the drying process, as he leaned in and surfed on the hot air of the dryer.
At around £30 per groom, this is not a cheap service, but on an average day Jess has up to 7 dogs to groom. Did the dogs enjoy it? Not possessing the skills of a Doctor Dolittle, all I can say is that all three owners had booked the next appointment by the end of the day. Grooming looks like it is set to be part of the dog's life for quite a while yet, so my canine friends, you had barking get used to it.
