How to Train Your Dog: Enjoy Grooming

Teach your dog to enjoy being groomed...well, at least tolerate it without a life changing experience. Desensitize your furry friend to being brushed to maintain his coat. Open the path for other maintenance by getting rid of the big, scary unknown. Each dog is an individual and will have his or her own needs, which may include a thorough brushout or initial shave for dogs with thick coats. Safely maintaining control of your dog's body and head while on a grooming table is one of the big safety concerns for many professional groomers. Training your dog to be calm and relaxed during grooming and to stand on command will go a long way in ensuring a successful visit to the groomer or completing the job yourself.
