Dog guest stars in classes at local school

Jenny, a black German Shephard, is used in multiple agriculture and animal science classes at West Canada Valley Jr/Sr High School with her owner Kiley Treen. Lessons implemented include behavioral analysis tests, puppy aptitude tests, safety tests and dog grooming. While Jenny doesn’t attend classes every week, the superintendent and board members made sure everyone — including parents — were aware that the dog will be present at times. Before approaching the school’s administration with the idea of involving a dog in school activities, Treen took it upon herself to get Jenny certified as an American Kennel Club (AKC) Good Citizen and registered as an emotional support animal. Tests were completed with a registered trainer to prove that the animal is safe around children and tests its ability to be in a public place.
