Westie and shihtzu Live Dog Grooming

Our first live groom is going to be with Sadie a monthly chihuahua grooming. Then Max will come in.
This is Max. He is coton de tulear. I have been grooming him, dematting him, for years. Today is Jun 2019. I love Max! He has come in every two weeks for years. Then a year ago or so Mom wanted to come less, so we tried that for 3 grooms and because he came in so matted, I said, NO. He MUST come every two weeks. If it was even reasonable or possible, with his coat, I wish he could come weekly. But my schedule and her schedule, budget, time, and etc all play a role on why this is impossible. Costly! If he is not brush and combed daily, he will get matted. And matted FAST. 2 weeks ago he came in for a grooming. He was extremely matted. I called Mom back to pick him and I refused for the final time, to dematt him. Since then, she said she has been working on his matts at home. We will see today, what is going on. I have, in 16 years, finally drew the line with matting. I WILL NOT do dematting that is extensive. I do believe it IS painful. He has acted out when we dematted him a year ago and I do NOT want to be the one to push a dog into an aggressive state of mind. Once you cross that line, the dog will remember that behavior and likely continue. I really hope all those matts were worked out. Both front legs, huge bundles of it on his neck, and both back legs and heiny.
If you want to have and keep your pets hair at a length like this, you must brush and comb every day. One skip of a day is going to push you backwards two fold on this. Dogs whom are shown at shows are brushed and maintained every day. And on top of that, they are usually working dogs and most kenneled their entire showing career, no romping, running under trees etc. So, you have to remember, this look does NOT come naturally.
