The Rough Out Before the Bath | In this video I demonstrate roughing out a dog before the bath.
Dogs on a regular schedule do not need to be roughed out, they go right into the bath.
Does that are not on a regular schedule and are overgrown and have some mats need to be roughed out to shorten the drying time.

Steps for the Rough Out:
1. Take off the bulk of the coat using either the same length blade that will be used after the bath or a shorter blade if matted.
2. Check for mats in the pads, if not matted I recommend shaving after the bath as shaving while the pads are dirty can cause irritation of the skin. Shaving close to the skin after the bath reduces irritation.
3. Check for tight mats behind the ears and clip if necessary.
4. Check the groin and rectum area for severe matting. If there are no mats it is best to clip after the bath to avoid irritation.
5. Shave any areas that are severely matted with the longest blade possible.
6. Leave tight area that are not matted as they will blow out during the high velocity drying process.
7. Brushing is not necessary, it's best to brush after the bath and blow dry
