LEADIN
In Cambodia, where most people live in poverty, cats and dogs often suffer neglect and abuse.
In recent years however, as the country has become richer, a growing number of Cambodians are spending their money beautifying their pets.
STORYLINE:
For nearly five years, Tep Kim Loan, affectionately known as Madame Loan, begins her day the same way: feeding stray cats and dogs.
Born in Vietnam and raised in Paris, 55-year-old Loan has taken on the task of feeding the hundreds of stray cats and dogs that live in and around the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh.
At a cost of around $700 US dollars per month, mostly her own money, she fills her car with animal feed and medicine before driving her now familiar route.
Often the animals are kept in appalling conditions.
