Gateway Pet Guardians is a nonprofit, virtual animal shelter and pet rescue located in St. Louis, Missouri. They pick-up stray dogs and cats in and around East St. Louis, Illinois and the St. Louis metro area.
The volunteers feed the stray animals in East St. Louis daily. When a foster family becomes available, they can then rescue one of the animals on their feeding route. The foster guardians help rehabilitate the dog or cat and then wait to find a perfect forever home.
In order to get these animals off the street, please consider becoming a foster pet guardian, you will be giving a second chance to lost souls and making your life better for it. More information about fostering is located on the website.
There are usually around 50 animals in foster care waiting for adoption. Please check them out on the website, along with an adoption application. Former street animals make great pets. All foster pets are spayed or neutered and will be up-to-date on all shots.

WARNING- this video is a typical site we see in East St. Louis. The white dog in this video is in heat and there are two males pursuing her. You can tell she is so miserable. Many times the males end up beat up from fighting with the female or worse, fighting with other males. You can see the golden male tries to scare off the black dog by growling and snarling at him.
Any animal lover would not want their dogs to go through this.
The golden male lives approximately a mile away. We tried knocking on his owner's door and letting her know what he was doing. She wasn't home.
