How to teach your LGD to jump into the dog food cage.

Here I am teaching some young dogs to jump into the feed pen and get feed. They are already used to'eating out of the self-feeder. I had it in another pen and cut a couple of the crossbars of the cattle panel down low and they could come in. Now they are too big for that. I've set blocks in front of the hole to help them crawl in. Notice the two steel posts beside the opening of the pen. This holds the pen steady as they crawl in and out. Some dogs do not like the pen shaking as they learn to crawl in so this stops that. It is good for the training pen to be large enough that the dogs do not feel trapped or penned in once they are inside. This one is 6' X 7'. If they do not want to go in, let them get hungrier. Take the blocks away from the outside as soon as possible or goats will soon find their way into the feed.
