A dog came into the San Jose Animal Care Center on February 9, 2015 that was severely matted and painful. The medical staff at the shelter deemed his condition enough of an emergency to warrant immediate action. Staff started grooming the dog but the dog was so painful that it needed to be sedated in order to continue. Ultimately we were able to uncover the dog that was underneath all that hair and in the process we made him more comfortable and were able to evaluate the condition of his skin, since matted dogs tend to have skin infections.
