Dog of war: Yelping puppy is saved by Peshmerga fighters who bandage its legs after it steps on ISIS landmine.
This is the moment Peshmerga fighters tended to a dog said to have been injured when stepping on an ISIS landmine.
The distressing footage from Iraq shows the puppy screeching in pain while a group of men huddle around it and try to help.
Some of the fighters hold the dog steady to stop it from trying to escape, while the others set about mending its injured leg.
All the while the young dog, which appears to be a Labrador, howls in pain.
Moving in to get a closer look, the video maker captures the men attaching a wooden splint to the lower part of the puppy's leg.
One man then secures it with a piece of rope before a second cuts away the excess with a knife.
A fighter then sets about wrapping the dog's leg with a bandage before tying a knot and again allowing the excess to be cut away.
The men then let go of the dog and step away, allowing it to jump to its feet.
It stops whining and checks out the bandage on its leg before wagging its tail and limping over to one of the men.
The clip concludes with the dog awaiting a drink of water courtesy of one of the fighters.
It is not clear exactly how the dog was injured but it is believed that its leg may have been penetrated by shrapnel when a landmine exploded.
