MARION, N.C. -- A McDowell County veterinarian is being forced to take drastic measures to save a patient in her care.
The dog was wounded by someone with a bow and arrow, and she will have to lose a leg.
The female shepherd-mix was brought in by a sheriff's deputy. She was discovered in the Twin Lakes area, and has been nicknamed Arrow -for obvious reason.
The x-ray shows Arrow fractured her thigh bone in three places. An injury that is so severe, her back leg has to be removed.
Arrow came in wearing a collar, and is obviously someone's pet, but she has not been reported missing and her owner is unknown.
One can only guess why somebody take aim and fire at the pup.
"It makes me angry, obviously, it makes me hurt for her, because I can't imagine the pain she was in when she was found," Julie Elkins said with the Animal Hospital of Marion.

"She's eating [and] drinking for us," Elkins said. "We do have to help her out to walk
