PET DOGS BLESSED FOR FEAST DAY OF ST. ROCH, PATRON SAINT OF CANINES
Dozens of dog owners had their pets blessed on Saturday in the Bolivian city of El Alto on Saint Roch's Day, the patron Saint of dogs.
A Roman Catholic priest held a special outdoor mass to celebrate Saint Roch and led a procession through the streets of the city that ended with the priest blessing the animals and their owners with holy water.
In his homily, father Sebastian Obermaier thanked God for creating dogs, "who take care of our homes and with whom our children can grow."
Saint Roch was born in France around 1295 and is said to have been saved by a dog who brought him food when he contracted the plague.
