Dr. Marc Smith:

I'm Dr. Marc Smith, 20 year practicing veterinarian and co-creator of PET | TAO holistic pet products.

Everyday, without a doubt, I get calls, "My dog ate something. How do I make him throw up?"

Your dog may have eaten chocolate or xylitol or even a bottle of Rimadyl or something that you know can cause problems, and you need to know how to make your pet throw up and you need to know how to make him throw up now.

If they throw up they evacuate and get rid of all that potentially toxic material.

The quickest, easiest way, although it's a little controversial but it's okay, I've done it for 20 years, is to give hydrogen peroxide.

You can buy it at any drugstore. Give a tablespoon a couple of times. If your dog doesn't throw up, wait 15 minutes.

Give a couple more until they throw up, and eventually they will throw up, but it takes time and you got to be patient.

If you're nervous or you're scared about giving it, then you can bring your dog in and we can give it medicine and it'll throw up everything it's eaten in the past two days.

But a simple way to do it is to give hydrogen peroxide.

You'll hear out there one of the pitfalls of doing that is that some of the acid can scar the esophagus and that type of thing. I've never had that happen.

I don't have any problem giving this advice, so I feel like it can be beneficial to you, especially when you're in a pinch or especially at night.
