SHORT BREED DESCRIPTION:
Intelligence, strength, excellent temperament and looks that will turn heads are what Shiloh Shepherds are known for. They are highly intelligent, protective and easier to handle than other shepherd breeds.

The Shiloh Shepherd was developed in the 1960s by crossing German Shepherd lines with a few other breeds. The International Shiloh Shepherd Registry, Inc. (ISSR) was incorporated in 1991. There are currently several different Shiloh Shepherd registries.

The Shiloh Shepherd's overall appearance is rather heavy. The width and length of the skull are approximately equal with a gently defined stop, strong developed cheekbones, and a gradually tapering muzzle. The coat comes in two varieties: smooth and plush. The plush coat is medium-length with a dense undercoat and has a distinct mane from the neck to the chest.

Most Shiloh Shepherds are intelligent, trainable dogs. They enjoy swimming, carrying backpacks, and pulling carts or sleds. Their herding instincts make them excellent partners in the agility arena; so once they have reached full maturity this is also something you can do to keep them physically and mentally occupied.
