GROVE CITY (James Jackson) -- We're learning more tonight about a dog breeding operation shut down in Grove City over the weekend. Nearly 50 pit bulls were taken from a home there.

Carolyn and Edward Moye are dog lovers. Their dog, Sadie, is part of their family. If you ask them about their neighbors dozens of dogs, they'll tell you they've been anything but trouble. "I've never seen them out. So he seems to be doing a really good job with them. I think they're very well-fed. So I think he's a very good dog owner," Moye said.

That owner was arrested this past weekend. His name has not been released.

Franklin County Animal Control says they took away nearly four dozen pit bulls from his house, on Alkire Road. Twenty of them were puppies.

ABC 6/FOX 28 talked to the dog owner's girlfriend, who says the man's a breeder. "They're not mean dogs. My kids love them. He's done it for years. Ever since I've been with him," The woman said.

The girlfriend says Animal Control has been to their home before, but hadn't taken the dogs, until now. Carolyn says the owner is a nice neighbor. "When he drives by every morning to go to work, he always waves and honks and stuff. He's very friendly," Moye said.

We're told the man bonded out of jail. Carolyn says she can't imagine being without her dog and wants to see her neighbor eventually reunited with his. "Just hope they get their dogs back because I know they care about them," Moye said.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office Special Investigative Unit is handling the case. Right now, the dogs are in the care of Animal Control and one was taken by the Capital Area Humane Society. Officials with Animal Control say the owner will be charged with failure to license. No word yet on additional charges.
