The challenge of working with purebred Dogo Argentinos through time is understanding genetic selection. Genetic selection or the process of choosing to breed one Dogo Argentino and not another is a foundational concept anyone who wishes to breed Dogo Argentinos must accept and understand to better the breed.
While Dogos have a more diverse genetic foundation than many breeds, those interested in preservation dog breeding should find this video of great use in understanding how genetic problems arise in a purebred dog breed like the Argentine Mastiff.
Using a fascinating essay by Carol Beuchat PhD of www.instituteofcaninebiology.org as the basis for this educational YouTube video I comment on each of her points to help make this introductory material on the process of artificial selection to be more accessible to the dog fancier with no scientific education.
