Tenth Place: Australian Cattle Dogs
We're kicking off our list with the Australian Cattle Dogs.

Ninth Place: Rottweiler
Some consider the Rottweiler to be a difficult dog, but he's one of the most loving house dogs and steadfast protectors of all.

Eighth Place: Papillon
The Papillon isn't only really cute. He's also very smart and responsive!
Seventh Place: Shetland Sheepdog

Also known as a Sheltie, the Shetland Sheepdog is a quick, obedient and really smart dog breed hailing from the Shetland Islands.

Sixth Place: Border Collie
Coming in the sixth place of our list, we have the Border Collie.

Fifth Place: Doberman Pinscher
The Doberman Pinscher might surprise a few here, due to its reputation for being extremely territorial, but the truth is that the Doberman Pinsher is very energetic, smart, and loyal above all.

Fourth Place: Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever is one of the most popular dog breeds in the U.S. The breed’s friendly,
tolerant attitude makes them fabulous family pets, and their intelligence makes them highly
capable working dogs.
Golden Retrievers excel at retrieving game for hunters, tracking, sniffing out contraband for law
enforcement, and as therapy and assistance dogs. They’re also natural athletes, and do well in
dog sports such as agility and competitive obedience. Golden retrievers have a very high
tolerance to pain and can tolerate injuries that many other dogs can’t tolerate. That is part of why
they make very good rescuers, police and hunting helpers.
Third Place: Labrador Retriever

The Labrador Retriever is one of the most famous dog breeds in the world, and is known as
America's favorite breed for a reason! Thanks to their intelligence, eagerness to please, and
willingness to work hard, Labradors are invaluable workers in a variety of fields.
They make great therapy dogs, service dogs and guide dogs, gun dogs retrieving upland game
and fowl, search and rescue dogs, and are the best all-around family dog. They love water and
are also great swimmers.
Second Place: German Shepherd Dog
The German Shepherd Dog, similar to the retriever in our third place, is another all around
worker thanks to its large size, agility and high intelligence. There are many reasons why
German Shepherds stand in the front rank of canine royalty, but experts say their defining
attribute is character: loyalty, courage, confidence, the ability to learn commands for many tasks,
and the willingness to put their life on the line in defense of loved ones. Because of this, they are
perfect family dogs, guardian dogs and workers.
First Place: Poodle
In the first place of our list, we have the wonderful poodle. A Poodle can learn up to 400
different words and commands. This type of communication does wonders for the relationship
between poodles and people and it keeps the poodle’s gears turning, which is unique among dog
breeds, as the average canine can only learn around 165 words during their lifetime. They also
have the ability to understand unknown situations and respond accordingly thanks to their
excellent problem solving ability.
