SHORT BREED DESCRIPTION:
The Cane Corso descends from a Roman breed of dog that was once used in warfare. It is now one of two Italian "Mastiff" type breeds, along with the Neapolitan Mastiff, that descended from this dog. The Cane Corso is the lighter version, and is more adept at hunting.

The Cane Corso is also known as Dogo di Puglia, which means "dog of Puglia." The Cane Corso is not an appropriate choice for an inexperienced dog owner. First-time dog owners and people who have had only “soft” breeds such as retrievers, spaniels, or toy breeds need not apply. This dog is large, powerful, intelligent, active, and headstrong.

The Cane Corso is a medium to large size mastiff-like dog—sturdy, muscular, largeboned, and athletic. The coat is short, stiff, and dense. The Cane Corso projects confidence and power, a capable protector of property and family.

Cane Corsos are utterly devoted to their family and tend to stick close to them at all times. They are eager to please and fairly easy to train, but because some can be domineering. Most, but not all, get along well with dogs and with other animals. However, they are not a good candidate for dog parks.

The Cane Corso is quite simple to care for. As a short haired breed, it does not require much grooming; just a bath and a brush now and then. Shedding is minimal. It is also flexible when it comes to living arrangements as the Cane Corso can settle just as happily into apartment dwelling as outdoor living.
