In this episode of Tip's Tips, we are going to show you how we save lots of money on our feed cost on our farm!

Like most homesteads or small family farms, we are always trying to figure out how to save money, & we have found ways how to cut our feed cost here on the homestead by doing 2 things. Those money saving things are getting old produce from markets & other farmers, & getting old bread from our local bread store or bakery.
The 1st way we are saving money on our feed bill, is by getting old produce and old vegetables from the local markets, local small farms & the farmers market. Some days we get a lot, & we can stretch it over a week ro so, & then some days we will get a small haul of old produce & we will give it to our chickens & pigs that day, but every little bit helps, & it is free food, & that helps big time on our feed bill every month! And as y'all know, living on a homestead or a small family farm, every little bit of money that you can save, is always a good thing!
The other way we are saving money on our feed bill is with old bread. We have a local bread store & they will sell us their old bor outdated bread for only $5 for these huge bags of old expired bread & other bakery treats. Bread is really great in the colder months too bc it does help your chickens put on a little more fat & will help them retain heat in those colder months!
Another thing about working with a bakery or a market, is that if you build that relationship with them, you could get your foot in the door with your own goods & farm products. Like selling eggs to the bakery or selling your lettuce or greens to the markets or maybe joining another farm that is growing or raising something you are not, & y'all team up to offer your products as a package deal to the public or markets....it could def give you more opportunities out there.
