How To: Make and mix cheaper chicken feed! - Updated Version

I detail how to make and mix cheaper chicken feed. The ingredients can be adjusted as you would like, there is no perfect mix necessarily - unless you are free ranging your chickens, free ranging is the perfect mix of food as the birds find and eat what they need!
My mix uses whole grains which often can be purchased cheaper than the chicken mash purchased at your local co-op store. And arguably, whole grains are better for your birds, its what they are used to eating in nature.
Mine consists of:
- whole barley
- whole wheat
- whole oats
-cracked corn
- soybean mash (this brings up the protein content percentage. You can also use fish pellets and other high protein foods to bring up the overall protein percentage )
If you're free ranging, this supplemental food is plenty for them. If you're not free ranging somewhat, you'll want to adjust your protein a bit higher, especially in the winter or cold seasons to keep their energy levels up.
Hope this helps someone!
