Feeding Chickens to Siberian Tigers in Harbin, China

Dislike 0 Published on 9 Jan 2008

In Harbin, one of China's most northern cities, right on the edge of Russia, you can do many things: see old Russian architecture, enjoy the annual Ice Festival, and even visit a Siberian Tiger reserve. The park, ostensibly for protection and breeding, leans heavily towards entertainment: we fed the tigers some chickens, but if you want to pony up the money, you can buy an entire cow and have it dump-trucked in for a feeding frenzy. Supposedly the park bred 80 cubs last year ... so is this place necessary, warts and all? Hopefully, those in the park will save the tiger first, and come around to a more enlightened way of doing it in the process.

Oh, and yes, I realize what a hypocrite I am for saying this and then buying the chickens anyway. Sue me.
