How I Make My Own Chicken Feeds Video # 46 (20181218 )

As I promised last week, I will upload a video regarding how I make my own chicken feeds (similar to my hogs feeds with a little variation).

The exact measurements (in pounds) are as follows:
30lbs. cracked corn
12lbs. Wheat
10lbs cracked soy beans
9lbs sorghum (in other places it is called Milo)
1lb 6oz animal minerals

My chicken won’t eat the whole soy beans :( (picky chickens). It will end up to a bit more than 61lbs altogether.

Crude Protein of each one are as follows (this is based on the information I got from different sites), and they calculate the crude protein in a bushel which every grain has different weight per bushel. I end up calculating the total amount of protein divided by each weight:

Corn @56lbs/bu = 10.40CP
Wheat @ 60lbs/bu = 13.80CP
Soy Beans @ 60lbs/bu = 34.0CP
Sorghum @ 50lbs/bu = 11.60CP

Calculation by pounds will be:
Corn 56/10.40 = 0.1857CP (or rounded up to .19CP
Wheat 60/13.80 = 0.23CP
Soy Beans 60/34.0 = 0.57CP
Sorghum 50/11.60 = 0.23CP

So if I make:
30lbs corn x 0.19 will be 5.57CP
12lbs wheat x 0.23 will be 2.76CP
10lbs soy beans x 0.57 will be 5.70CP
9 lbs sorghum x 0.23 will be 2.07CP

By adding all the CP values it will totaled to 16.10CP, I am emphasizing CP (crude protein) since the feed companies never mention the word Crude Protein, all they are putting on the feed bags is percentage of the protein (but what protein? Crude protein of bare grains or the pressed grain from (cooking) oil processors? Also the animal mineral I add has no protein value on the label, it has only mineral values so I can not put its protein value.

This feeds I’m making is good to all fowls (I think for the small backyard farming since big farms make their own feeds base on the needs of their chickens and age).

If you like my videos, please subscribe and thumbs up. Every Friday I’m uploading videos in my rural living, how I manage and try to live comfortably on small property. In the future, I am sorry this video was late (suppose to be last Friday but when I transfer it to my computer I put it in the wrong folder and can’t find it).
