"Let Mama Do It" Raising Backyard Chickens the Old Fashioned Way

My first attempt at letting my broody, Babette, raise her first clutch. Hatch day was July 24th, 2012.
I am a chicken hobbyist. It started out with my family getting a few birds for eggs, (I wanted a horse) but I grew to love the birds so much that when my family finally got tired of caring for chickens, the succeeding flock became MINE. :)
Babette is a Buff Orphington/Game hen (a Mutt) and I saw a great potential in her as a mother. ....Also...she just wouldn't quit sitting on an empty nest. So I finally found a purebred Roo and took the eggs from my purebred hens and set them under her. I am so proud of what she has done and hope to raise many clutches of chickens every year from now on.
