Asparagus pruning, fertilizing, & mulching w/chickens & cows!

Just wanted to show everyone how I take care of my asparagus.
I prune asparagus in the winter once they die and dry out. I fertilize asparagus about a month or two before I expect them to start poking their little heads up. Once the mulch gets a bit compacted I will continue to add more mulch to keep the weeds at bay and that will also make it so that I have to water less frequently. I try and keep them mulched always and forever! I very rarely have to water my asparagus plants which is great. Once they are established and well taken care of they are very easy to maintain.
I will probably be dividing some of my asparagus roots next winter because a couple of them are quite large and that will give them a bit more space as well as give me some free asparagus plants... win win!
I started this asparagus from crowns about 5 or 6 years ago and they produce wonderfully. They are a Jersey hybrid variety.
Guest staring Toby Wan Kenobe (my shih tzu), a few of my super helpful chickens and some nosy cows.
