Kiambu County turns to breeding insects for proteins and quality feeds

The Kiambu County government has devised a new method of breeding insects especially maggots as an alternative means of getting proteins for quality feeds. Speaking in Thika, Kiambu County Chief in Charge of Agriculture John Njenga said the county being one of the leading in farming has had challenges in getting quality feeds and said it was time to embrace new technology. He said that farmers will have to breed the flies using cow dung. The Chief Officer said the county have been exploring alternative sources of getting proteins for chicken, fish and pigs among others and that the new technology will create employment to the youths in Kiambu.
