I am Dr. Kim Kendall, Cat Vet and creator of http://www.thecatpalace.com.au in Roseville, Sydney. I've discovered there are three things that indicate to you that your cat needs a deep, cleansing wash.
A cat wash at the cat palace, near Chatswood, relieves your poor pet of the stress and ability to remove the pollen and pollution which affects her coat and health. Plus you don't have to clean up afterwards!
So ... how do you know YOUR cat needs a professional grooming and day spa?
I developed the Cat Palace because for many years I have noticed that the cat’s coats are getting worse as pollution and pollens stick to the outside of the cat.
As a result, their naturally clean habit of licking makes the sticky stuff end up inside their intestines, causing problems like sore throats and furballs.
And it happens to cats with long and short hair.
The only reasonable solution is a deep cleansing wash, often after the coat is clipped short so the cat has a better chance of maintaining it at home.
When you bring your pet cat in, we also clip their nails so there are fewer ouches when the cat sits on your lap or less damage to the furniture when the cat has a scratching session.
So you can see why a Day Spa - where we are the bad guys who do the nails, the combing and washing, are the ones getting wet and have to wash the floor and towels afterwards - becomes the sensible choice for you and your cat!
Your cat comes home feeling wonderfully clean, and you're the good guy for bringing her home!
So, what are the three signs your cat needs a wash?
First, her hair is falling out. Cats shed more hair when their skin is irritated and they get bald bits, where the hair just feels spiky and sticky.
Second, she is licking herself much more than expected. A really clean and fussy cat is usually itchy and trying to solve the problem with saliva, but that's just making it worse. Cats lick themselves rather than scratch when they itch. Sometimes they get frustrated and chew out patches of hair even.
Third, her coat is no longer silky and shiny; there are knots and tufts of hair, especially around the haunches.
This is often a sign of arthritis as well.
Of course, you can wash your cat at home! But after a Kitty Day Spa episode, you and your cat will prefer the full on massage, deep cleaning and concentrated expertise of a grooming at the Cat Palace - where every cat is treated like a king.
