The British Shorthair Cat Breed
The British Shorthair cat is one of the most popular breeds of cat in the UK. They come in many different colours such as Lilac Tortie or colour point but the most well known is the classic Blue, “British Blue”. The Blue is also my favourite colour. They are calm and have a great personality and temperament but most are definitely not lap cats and prefer to be sitting near you watching whats going on or sleeping rather than on your lap. They prefer to have all their feet on the floor rather than being picked up and carried however all of our cats will allow us to pick them up for a short while without too much fuss. They have a chunky body with a lovely thick coat and broad face. The breed originates from European cats that were imported into Britain by the Romans in the first century AD and then they bred with local British wild cats developing into large strong cats with thick coats.
Should you like these cats which make wonderful pets a good source of advice and to find a good responsible breeder to buy your kitten from is the GCCF website. I would recommend checking them out. They are very helpful, informative and just great.
