It’s the most wonderful time of the year – but it can be tricky for your cat. Watch this video from Petplan to see how you can make Christmas as easy as possible for your cat.
With so many new people paying a visit your cat can become nervous - gently take your cat away if she’s scared.
Then there’s all that noise. Loud and unusual noises can be scary, especially for older pets that might find the chaos overwhelming. Be prepared and make sure your cat has a peaceful place to relax.
With branches for climbing and attractive decorations, temptation is everywhere at Christmas. Make sure you secure your tree at the base, hang breakable decorations higher up and avoid tinsel, poinsettias, holly and mistletoe (these are all dangerous for cats to eat). Choose an artificial or non-drop tree and vacuum regularly to protect your cat’s paws and tuck electrical cables away safety and turn lights off when you’re not around.
Christmas smells fantastic, but many festive foods are dangerous for cats. Cheese, grapes, cooked beans, onion and garlic can make cats ill and mince pies, fruitcake and chocolate should be avoided too. A small treat is fine but stick to a normal diet overall to avoid tummy upsets.
Christmas is a time for giving – why not give your cat a gift? Remember, it’s the thought that counts.
Wishing you and your pet a healthy, happy Christmas.
