How To Wake a Deaf Cat

The reason I pat the floor instead of pet him is because if I touch him while he is sleeping it really frightens him. I've learned to always wake him with vibrations instead... he still meows because he is startled, but it is better than being scared and skittish! Also, if he wakes up and I am not in the room he howls... which is why I normally try to let him know when I am leaving the room :)
