Economic reforms have brought with them hardships in Russia. Many
Muscovites have been forced to improvise to make ends meet.
In the case of Tatyana Bocharova, her passion for cats gave her
the opportunity to make additional revenue, even if she had to
transform her typical three-room Moscow flat into a cat breeding
farm with 23 mewing animals to do it.
The Moscow Cat Show is not only a national but an international
showcase for Russia's cat breeders. It gave Tatyana the chance to
show off her prize moggy which she had shipped in from the Kurile
Islands in the Far East -- the Japanese bobtail cat. The rare
breed is highly sought after by Russia's new upwardly mobile
middle class.
